Steve Marcus
of Marcus Production of Florida says that the
diminished viewer attention spans and the ever-increasing television channel universe are
obstacles to overcome in television production.
"I see those conditions as personal challenges to experiment, try new techniques and
create different types of production values." says Marcus, who is a
director/cinematographer for Marcus Productions in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
Marcus credits MTV as one of the prime influences on today's agency creatives.
"We're doing a lot more work in contemporary visual styles," he says.
"The agencies are coming up with more innovative creative content, and because
budgets are tighter, they're trying to get more out of each production."
Film
has always been an important weapon in the Marcus creative arsenal.
In the last six years, 80% of Steve's commercial work has been
shifted to HD.
"I have always had so much flexibility and creative latitude with
film but have now found the same flexibility and latitude with HD.
After a week of shooting new commercials for the Queen Mary 2, all
shot on HD, I was sold."
With a commercial shift to Direct Response television production,
Steve's commercials now have the look of film without the cost.
